ABOUT
Weather Conscious is a nomadic performance that invites the audience to tune into the environment. A stereo microphone pair and two light sensors capture the presence of wind, sunlight, and bird vocalizations. This data guides a generative music algorithm loosely inspired by the aeolian harp. The wind excites a set of virtual strings whose overtones are shaped by sunlight. Bird vocalizations are analyzed to establish conflict-avoidant responses: when birds are sensed, the strings are dampened on a spectral level, introducing variation to the music while reducing masking between bioacoustic and synthesized sounds. The textures that emerge unfold as a phenomenological meditation on shared agency with the more-than-human world.
